Extraordinary Edition
JOURNEY TO THE CENTRE OF THE TERROIR
Far from any known territory, this fifth and penultimate edition of the collector’s series celebrates the 2022 vintage and the odyssey that gave birth to it.
INSPIRATION
With the Extraordinary Edition, Château Fleur Cardinale issues an invitation to explore. Far from any known territory, this fifth and penultimate edition of the collector’s series celebrates the 2022 vintage and the odyssey that gave birth to it. To further exalt this exceptional wine, it borrows from Jules Verne, the prolific author and creative genius, and the imagination of his stories set at the outer edges of the world and the boundaries of knowledge.
In the vineyard, 2022 was like a thriller novel, the story of a committed man facing up to an unruly and sometimes tempestuous nature. He observed it attentively, to better respond to its paroxysmal assaults, those of a year with unprecedented climatic conditions alternating between excessive cold and incredible heat.
Demonstrating tremendous powers of observation and great patience, man studied the alignments. Day after day, he inspected the plots, eager to make discoveries and curious to understand how the vine would respond to these phenomena that were beyond them both.
2000 magnums only, hand-numbered, presented in a single wooden case.
VINTAGE
By its extremes, this 2022 vintage provided the vine and the winegrower with the conditions to imagine new paths. By pushing back the frontiers of knowledge and adjusting to the needs of the vine, man succeeded in making 2022 a great nectar, already astounding on tasting its first juice.
In an exercise similar to writing a coming-of-age novel, each day he drew the right lessons from his meticulous observations. Combining absolute attention, scientific curiosity and a capacity for innovation, he adapted his practices and learnt invaluable lessons for meeting future challenges.
DESIGN
A whole world and more in a bottle. The labels of the Extraordinary Edition magnums are brought to life through a multitude of detail. Making reference to the major works of Jules Verne, they create a romantic setting for the knight of Fleur Cardinale. With a few subtle strokes, the knight’s helmet becomes a diver’s helmet. Symbols of the emblematic Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, along with the octopus, take pride of place at the heart of the coat of arms.
On either side of this light, central motif, the hot-air balloon in Five Weeks in a Balloon rises up to caress the trunk of Kiouni, the elephant ridden by Phileas Fogg in Around the World in Eighty Days. Gigantism meets exoticism, with the appearance of pterodactyls and incredibly shaped mushrooms straight out of the depths of Journey to the Centre of the Earth. The tools of the adventurer and writer, a telescope and inkwells, put the finishing touches to this picture teeming with imagery.
TASTING
The words of the world’s most translated French writer are as universal as the aromas of a fine wine. They take readers and wine lovers into another dimension.
From the deepest depths to the highest spheres, like the work of Jules Verne, the palate of Château Fleur Cardinale 2022 offers a multi-dimensional universe of possibilities. Remarkably structured, precise and rich in its innumerable subtleties, the style of the 2022 vintage is akin to the honed and fertile pen of the renowned novelist.
Just as the book crosses the ages, time will do its work for this long-lasting growth and exalt the energy that marked its vintage.
Blend: 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
WOODEN CASE
Just as the cover completes the book, the wooden case illustrates and protects the wine to be offered. Adorned with its delicate illuminations, the Extraordinary Edition wooden case helps to reveal the nectar contained within, an invitation to the unique experience of a journey to the centre of the terroir.
The Extraordinary Edition gift box pays tribute to the publisher Pierre-Jules Hetzel, who was responsible for discovering Jules Verne and created sumptuous covers for each of his works. As the first publisher in the modern sense, he accompanied authors in the composition of their works, encouraging them to push the horizons of their literary creations ever further.
Gilding and interlaced motifs evoke the delicacy of the bookbinding of a bygone age. Reflecting this aesthetic, the wooden case is in keeping with the French tradition of beautiful books and publishing expertise.
