WEATHER CONDITIONS

Frost in April, rain in June and cool temperatures in July added up to a very challenging vintage in 2021! As a reward for the vignerons’ determination, Mother Nature provided them with hot, dry conditions throughout August and September, which allowed them to harvest the grapes in optimal conditions and maintain the high quality potential of the vintage.

A new wine, and the first white, for Fleur Cardinale this year. Made from young, three-year-old vines, with a total of 1,200 bottles from 2.4ha planted with Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris and Semillon. Light straw colour in the glass with grass, peach, elderflower, white plum, yellow and white flower notes. This is beautifully presented on the palate with floral aromatics continuing alongside mouthwatering acidity, a sweet gentle unctuosity and a clean freshness with minerality and salinity on the finish. It has such electric energy but also with body and structure to give an expansive mouthfeel. An awesome, sophisticated and nuanced first vintage showing lots of promise for this new bottling. Axel Marchal consultant. Fermentation in one year old Burgundy barrels, then nine months ageing on lees with regular and gentle batonnage. May 2022

This is dense, yet it’s really bright and energetic, with depth of fruit and lively acidity. It gives almost a sweet and sour character. Lime, lemon and white peach. Zingy. Lively white in St.-Emilion. 50% sauvignon blanc, 25% sauvignon gris and 25% semillon. May 2022

Couleur jaune vert. Nez intense, au fruité pur, mûr et subtil. Délicat en entrée de bouche, très aromatique au milieu et doué d'un toucher fin, le vin évolue savoureux et distingué en finale. Il persiste sur des saveurs pures et une note épicée et raffinée. C'est délicat et très prometteur pour des vignes à peine âgées de 3 ans. TERRE DE VINS, MATHIEU DOUMENGE

2021, premier millésime de blanc pour l'équipe de Fleur Cardinale, accompagnée par l'œnologue Axel Marchal, sous l'étiquette Intuition de Fleur Cardinale. Issu d'une parcelle argileuse de 2,40 hectares plantée il y a trois ans (dont l'encépagement se répartit à parité entre sauvignon blanc, sauvignon gris et sémillon), il s'agit d'un assemblage 50% sauvignon blanc, 25% sauvignon gris et 25% sémillon, fermenté en barrique bourguignonne d'un vin et élevé huit mois sur lies. On est séduit par le joli nez qui réussit le pari d'être à la fois "très sauvignon" sans aller vers le variétal caricatural. On discerne la poire, la fleur blanche et une légère note de pierre à fusil. En bouche, un agréable équilibre entre gras et tension, le vin est signé par une acidité maîtrisée qui tend la chair et l'allonge, jusqu'à une finale salivante, entre zeste d'agrume et un croquant de cerise blanche, voire même une touche gourmande de mirabelle. C'est un fort joli coup d'essai, très prometteur. May 2022

The nose is fresh, elegant and reveals minerality and energy. There are notes of quenette, bright vine peach and, to a lesser extent, of fresh/sparkling white berries combined with fine touches of exotic fruit as well as hints of fresh rose petal, citrus, acacia, a discreet hint of honeysuckle and spice. The palate is fruity, fresh, mineral, balanced and shows some tension, energy, and an acidic spine. On the palate this wine expresses notes of fleshy/chunky/juicy vine peach, quenette and more slightly kumquat combined with touches of bright green apple, sweet lemon/pink grapefruit as well as discreet hints of exotic fruit, honeysuckle, a subtle hint of vanilla/fresh vanilla flowers, a discreet tannic and iodine/saline edge (in the background). The inaugural vintage and a great way to start with this excellent white. Made from 50% Sauvignon Blanc and 25% each of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris, the wine is rounded and smooth without being heavy. Indeed, it imparts excellent density and energy, leaving the impression of sophistication. Fermented in non new Burgundy barrels, with lees stirring. Great white to get! May 2022
