Château Croix Cardinale 2014

Nouvelle acquisition de la famille Decoster, celle de la Fleur Cardinale dont il est voisin, joli vin bien constitué, les tannins sont lisses, la bouche fraîche, l'ensemble équilibré. Une affaire.

Bright dark fruit and a nice dustiness, both following through on the palate. Soft and sweet fruited on the palate. Not very long or intense but easy and well fruited for simple pleasure. March 2015

A broad-shouldered red with dark fruit, cedar and tobacco. Full and round. Excellent structure and texture. March 2015

It is crisp and fresh on the nose with lively black and blueberry fruit. The 100% new oak here feels nicely integrated even if I feel that it would have benefitted from less. The palate is medium-bodied with gently gripping tannin, good depth and acidity with a structured, quite dense finish. There is good breeding behind this Saint Emilion. Tasted twice with consistent notes. April 2015

Chocolate-covered cherries with a hint of truffle in the nose, this wine is silky, smooth and inviting with sweet berries and coffee bean in the finish. April 2015

A big wine, the 2014 Croix Cardinale offers up huge dark fruit in an explosive, powerful style that is all about immediate gratification. Smoke, incense, mocha, plums and new oak meld into the enveloping finish. The 2014 is a bit bombastic and not at all subtle, but at the same time, all the elements are in the right place. The blend is 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Tasted three times.April 2015

Rounded and flattering in feel, with crushed plum and blackberry reduction notes, carried by a buried graphite edge. Shows ample toast, too, but this is decidedly fruit-driven. 2015
